Less than 20 minutes west of Red Deer and halfway between Edmonton and Calgary, the town of Sylvan Lake is a popular tourist destination with a population of 12,327.
With its beautiful lakeside location, it’s hard to imagine anyone who wouldn’t want to visit Sylvan. Except maybe angry loners or depressive shut-ins.
How to spend your time
One of the most well-known attractions in Sylvan Lake is the Wild Rapids Waterslide Park, one of the biggest outdoor waterparks in Alberta, with a variety of waterslides for all ages and comfort levels. Of course, if you’d like to spend a day in the water that’s a little more relaxing, you can drop by the lake itself and lounge around on the beach, go for a swim or spend a day sailing.
In August, Sylvan Lake is home to the Jazz at the Lake Festival, with live shows from major jazz performers.
Where to sleep...
You have a multitude of choices for lodging while you’re visiting Sylvan. Try one of these hotels or motels, hit up a bed and breakfast, or spend a night under the stars at one of the area campgrounds. If you have really deep pockets, you could even book one of these vacation homes.
And a job to pay for it
